Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has sought the collaboration and cooperation of traditional rulers in order to fight crime and criminal activities in the state.
The governor made this known during the inauguration of the ninth Abia State Traditional Rulers Council in Umuahia, where HRH Eze Linus Nto Mba was inaugurated as the chairman of the council.
Inaugurating the principal officers of council at the auditorium of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs on Tuesday, Governor Otti charged the new leadership of the traditional rulers in the state to mobilise their colleagues to assist the present administration in fighting violent crime in Abia.
He disclosed that he launched the ‘Operation Crush’ to tackle criminality in the state, adding that huge resources had been spent on that, demanding the monarchs to collaborate with the government to achieve the needed security in Abia.
Governor Otti said his administration was building a new Abia, where the government would provide quality education, healthcare, electricity, water and other social amenities beyond the urban dwellers, stressing that the support of the traditional rulers would be critical in that regard.
Dr. Otti, who enjoined the traditional rulers to brace up to the agenda of the new government in the state, urged the monarchs to get informed of happenings in government as well as be fully involved and responsive in the goings-on in their various communities.
He congratulated the new principal officers of the state Council of Traditional Rulers on their appointments, saying they were carefully selected.
