Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has vowed to intensify grassroots mobilization to counter internal distractions within the Labour Party.

Speaking at his country home in Nvosi on Saturday, the governor emphasized that the party’s success is more significant than any individual’s personal interest, amid growing tensions following the Supreme Court ruling that ousted the Barr. Julius Abure-led faction of the party.

New Leadership Team for Abia Arise Unveiled

In a move to bolster the political strength of the state, Governor Otti inaugurated a new leadership team for Abia Arise, a crucial political support structure credited with playing a pivotal role in his 2023 election victory under the Labour Party. The formation of the new leadership team is seen as a strategy to ensure sustained engagement with the people and to foster good governance throughout Abia State.

Otti Calls for Unity in the Face of Distractions

Addressing the ongoing controversy, Governor Otti urged party members to put aside grievances and unite for the greater good. He expressed confidence that justice would eventually prevail, reinforcing that the Labour Party is more significant than any individual faction.

“The triumph of evil over good is only temporary,” Otti stated, urging members to focus on the bigger picture of party unity. He called for peace, highlighting that those attempting to destabilize the party would ultimately harm themselves, while the party would emerge even stronger.

Leadership Shakeup to Bolster Engagement and Governance

At the inauguration, Governor Otti introduced the newly appointed leadership of Abia Arise, with Mazi Nkem Okoro named as State Chairman, Mrs. Sophia Chidinma Ikpeama as Vice Chairman, and Dr. Sylvester Ibeneme as Secretary. Governor Otti explained that the reconstitution of the leadership was intended to inject fresh energy into the organization, which will further the cause of good governance in the state.

He urged the new leadership team to stay connected with their local communities, gathering feedback and galvanizing support for the ongoing reforms and development initiatives in Abia. Otti emphasized that Abia Arise would play a key role in consolidating the gains made in the last 22 months.

Unity Key to Future Success

While introducing the new leadership, Governor Otti also stressed the importance of maintaining a unified front within Abia Arise. He warned against infighting that could derail the vision that birthed the organization in 2013 and assured the new team that they would receive all necessary support from the board of trustees.

In his response, Mazi Nkem Okoro, the newly appointed Chairman of Abia Arise, expressed his gratitude to Governor Otti for the trust placed in him. He commended Otti’s leadership, which he said had brought positive change to the state, and pledged to align Abia Arise with the governor’s vision for continued success in governance.

Abia Arise, which played a crucial role in Otti’s political ascent, is expected to remain a central force in his political strategy moving forward, further strengthening his governance efforts in the state.
