The Independent Electoral Commission in Kano State has confirmed the arrest of over 100 suspected political thugs in Bagwai Local Government Area during the ongoing by-election.

Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Abdu Zango, disclosed this while speaking to journalists on Saturday after inspecting the electoral process in Bagwai Town.

Zango revealed that the suspects were apprehended in possession of various weapons, raising concerns over attempts to disrupt the election.

Despite the arrests, he expressed general satisfaction with how the election was conducted, noting that electoral officers were adequately equipped with essential materials at all designated polling units.

He acknowledged some delays caused by logistical challenges and thuggery but emphasized that these were effectively managed through strong security intervention.

“There was a visible and reassuring presence of security personnel across all polling units to maintain law and order and ensure a peaceful voting process,” Zango added.
