Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, issued a statement on December 18th, expressing his deep concern over the abduction of Archbishop Emeritus Godwin Okpala.

Obi revealed that he had made a passionate appeal to the kidnappers for the release of the 75-year-old prelate.

Obi described the situation as deeply troubling and unfortunate, noting that despite his appeal, the Archbishop remains in captivity after 10 days.

He urged the abductors to release His Grace on compassionate grounds and to cease actions that endanger lives and undermine humanity.

Obi’s statement reflects a broader sentiment of alarm over the rising insecurity in Nigeria, where many citizens live in fear of kidnappings and violence. He condemned the current state of insecurity, urging the government at all levels to ensure the safety of its citizens and restore peace in the region.
