Former Labour Party presidential candidate and ex-governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, shared a reflective account of his packed weekend through a statement on his X handle.
He began by attending the funeral of Dr. Isaac Obi, a staunch supporter of the Obidient movement and a Minnesota resident, in his home village. Following that, he paid his respects at the burial of Mr. Alfred Nwosu, a close confidant and advisor whom Obi described as “one of the best human beings” he had ever met.
Obi continued his weekend by joining prominent figures at the burial of Pastor Ngozi Mouka, the wife of Pastor Lazarus Mouka, General Overseer of the Lord’s Chosen Ministry, in Imo State.
On Saturday, Obi embarked on a rigorous six-and-a-half-hour road trip from Onitsha to Igarra, Akoko-Edo, to support Labour Party’s Edo State governorship candidate, Barrister Olumide Akpata. The campaign trail led them through Jattu-Uzairue and Auchi. Despite leaving Auchi at 6 PM, poor road conditions significantly delayed the journey to Ekpoma, where eager Obidients had been waiting for hours. Obi expressed his deep concern over Nigeria’s deteriorating infrastructure, lamenting the numerous road accidents they encountered, a reflection of leadership failure in his view.
The following day in Benin City, Obi participated in two Thanksgiving services with Barr. Akpata, including a Mass at the Holy Cross Cathedral. He also attended the 90th birthday celebration of His Excellency, Sir Chief Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom, at St. Gabriel the Archangel Cathedral.
Obi’s weekend concluded with his participation in the Communities Union Cultural Festival, celebrating the unity and rich heritage of Edo State.
He emphasized that these engagements represent a shared commitment to building a better Nigeria, highlighting the beauty of the nation’s unity and diversity.
