Labour Party Presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, expressed relief over the recent rescue of 20 medical students kidnapped in Benue State and the release of 8 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members held captive in Zamfara.

Obi shared his thoughts in a statement on his official X handle, praising the coordinated efforts of security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, and military personnel, for their sacrifices in securing the safe return of the abducted individuals.

The NYSC members were kidnapped on August 17 while traveling from Uyo in Akwa Ibom State to Sokoto State. Obi acknowledged the bravery of all involved in their rescue and emphasized the need for more decisive action against the rising tide of insecurity.

Despite these recent successes, Obi highlighted the continued threat of banditry and violence plaguing the nation, citing the recent murder of 13 farmers by bandits in Niger State’s Shiroro Local Government Area and the kidnapping of 10 individuals in Zamfara State’s Moriki Community. He lamented the numerous unreported incidents of criminal activity across Nigeria, calling for an intensified focus on preventing such tragedies and ensuring that perpetrators face justice.

Obi concluded by reiterating his belief in a more secure Nigeria, emphasizing that the government and security forces must lead the charge in protecting citizens and creating a safer future.
