Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, expressed his deep sorrow and outrage over the recent attack on soldiers in Abia State.

In a statement posted on his X handle, Obi remarked:

“I am appalled and saddened by the attack on our brave soldiers in Abia State yesterday, resulting in the death of five soldiers. This dastardly act remains condemnable as it is a stark reminder of the escalating insecurity and violence that has continued to plague our nation under our collective watch. My heart goes out in solidarity and sincere condolences to my dear brother, Dr. Alex Otti, Governor of Abia State, and the good people of the state.”

Peter Obi extended his condolences to the families of the fallen heroes, acknowledging their ultimate sacrifice in service to the country. He emphasized that their sacrifice must not be forgotten, and highlighted the necessity of demanding accountability and justice.

“Our failure as a nation to protect our citizens and security personnel is a clear dereliction of duty and a sign of the deficiency of the Nigerian state. The continued brutality and bloodshed in our nation must be met with swift and decisive action, not empty words and hollow promises.”

Obi strongly condemned the atrocity and called for an immediate and thorough investigation to identify and punish the perpetrators. He urged the nation not to stand idly by while violence and fear tear the country apart.

“We will continue to push for a better future, where our citizens and security forces are protected and valued.”

Through his message, Peter Obi underscored the urgent need for security reforms and a commitment to protecting both citizens and security personnel in Nigeria.
