Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has expressed deep sorrow over the brutal killing of several innocent people in Mafia Village, located in the Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.

In a statement posted on his X handle, Obi described the incident as “devastating” and a stark reminder of the worsening security situation in Nigeria.

He emphasized that the continuous cycle of violence, which includes killings, maiming, and the displacement of innocent citizens, is a clear sign that the country’s current security measures are failing.

Obi urged for a paradigm shift in tackling the issue, stating, “We must acknowledge this reality and take bold steps, as I have always maintained, by declaring war on insecurity before it consumes us completely.”
