Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, expressed deep sorrow over the recent killings of Northern travellers in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The tragic deaths have highlighted the growing violence in the country. Obi condemned such acts, emphasizing that violence has no place in a civilized society.

He stressed that every Nigerian, regardless of their ethnicity or region, should be able to travel safely within the country. The victims, who were accused of being kidnappers, were brutally killed by a mob. Obi acknowledged the importance of addressing criminal activity but cautioned that extrajudicial measures only worsen the cycle of violence and undermine the rule of law.

While the government has condemned the incident and promised an investigation, Obi urged authorities to also focus on ensuring justice for Edo indigenes who have also fallen victim to similar violence.

This tragic event underscores the need for improved security measures and greater public awareness to prevent such incidents in the future. Obi called for collaboration between communities and law enforcement to ensure that justice is pursued through lawful means, not through unlawful actions.

Obi extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims, urging all Nigerians to work together to create a society where peace, unity, and respect for human life are upheld.
