Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi expressed his concerns via his X account regarding the absence of both the President and Vice President from the country.

He acknowledged that while the Presidency is not technically vacant, it is troubling for a nation grappling with numerous domestic challenges.

Obi highlighted that the President had initially stated he would be away for 14 days, a timeframe that has now elapsed. Given the pressing issues facing Nigeria, including the severe hardships stemming from various governmental policies, he expected the President to return promptly to address these urgent matters.

Additionally, Obi questioned the rationale behind the President’s choice to remain in Paris, France—only 833 nautical miles from Stockholm, Sweden—while delegating the Vice President to undertake a much longer journey of 3,055 nautical miles, which takes about nine hours. He argued that the President could have easily attended the event in Sweden on his way back, thus saving time and precious national resources.

In his statement, Obi emphasized the need for leaders to demonstrate fiscal responsibility and make decisions that prioritize the welfare of the people, particularly in light of the widespread hunger and poverty currently affecting the nation. He concluded with a hopeful note, asserting that “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
