Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has expressed deep concern over the sudden disappearance of the emeritus Archbishop of the Niger Province, Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, and his driver.
The Archbishop reportedly vanished while traveling to a public event in Anambra State.
In a heartfelt statement, Obi lamented the pervasive insecurity across Nigeria, noting how it leaves citizens living in constant fear and uncertainty. “This deplorable level of insecurity in every part of the nation remains condemned. In almost every part of the nation, our people live in fear and uncertainty, not knowing when terror will strike,” he said.
He further emphasized the plight of countless victims of insecurity whose stories often go unreported. Obi urged the government to prioritize the protection of lives and property, stressing that Nigerians should be able to move freely and pursue their activities without fear of harm.
Obi also extended his prayers to the Okpala family and the Anglican Communion, expressing hope for the Archbishop’s and his driver’s safe return. He called on security agencies to take immediate action to investigate the disappearance and ensure their safe recovery.
