Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last election, has reaffirmed his commitment to love and service by supporting the Daughters of Divine Love (DDL) in Emene, Enugu.

In line with the spirit of Saint Valentine’s Day, which celebrates love through acts of kindness, Obi visited the religious community to contribute to their proposed College of Nursing project.

Highlighting the values of love and charity exemplified by St. Valentine, Obi emphasized that true progress is achieved through sacrifice, compassion, and a shared commitment to uplifting society. He expressed concern over the growing culture of materialism in Nigeria, which he believes fuels poverty and hardship.

Commending the sisters for their dedication to healthcare and education—two vital pillars of national development—Obi stressed the importance of building human infrastructure alongside physical infrastructure. He reiterated his unwavering support for the nursing college project, recognizing its role in nation-building.

As part of his continued support, Obi presented an additional ₦25 million cheque, a joint contribution from himself and renowned Nigerian philanthropist, Prof. Philip Ozuah. This brings their total support for the project to ₦100 million.

“Love must be demonstrated through action to create a more caring and just society,” Obi stated, urging Nigerians to embrace service and compassion as pathways to national progress.

He remains hopeful that, through collective efforts, a new Nigeria is possible.
