Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has reaffirmed his commitment to women empowerment and poverty alleviation. During a visit to the Women Fellowship Pastoral Project in Umuahia, Abia State, an initiative of Methodist women aimed at fighting poverty through skills acquisition and empowerment, Obi presented a generous donation of ₦10 million.

In his remarks, Obi highlighted the critical role women play in national development, noting that they represent about 50% of Nigeria’s population. He emphasized that equipping women with education and skills not only enhances their ability to support their families economically but also contributes significantly to reducing poverty across the nation.

Drawing inspiration from Bangladesh, where women make up approximately 80% of the workforce in the thriving textile industry, Obi stressed that a similar transformation is achievable in Nigeria through strategic investment in women’s education and training.

He commended the founders and contributors of the Women Fellowship Pastoral Project for their dedication and vision, underscoring the importance of collective efforts in building a stronger, more inclusive Nigeria.

“As I always say, our productive contributions to our nation are the force upon which we will build the New Nigeria. It is quite POssible!” Obi concluded.
