Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate in the 2023 election, has reaffirmed his dedication to education and healthcare development by donating a total of N70 million to several institutions in Onitsha.

The announcement was made on Monday via his X handle.

Obi’s contributions began with a visit to the newly inaugurated Shanahan University in Onitsha, where he participated in the opening ceremony. During his address, Obi emphasized the importance of education as a critical pathway to success. To support the institution’s growth, he donated N50 million towards its infrastructural development.

Following his stop at Shanahan University, Obi proceeded to the Waterside Midwifery in Onitsha, where he donated N10 million. He highlighted the essential role midwifery plays in reducing Nigeria’s high infant mortality rate and stressed the need for continuous support to improve training and healthcare services.

Obi’s third visit was to the Borromeo School of Nursing Sciences, also in Onitsha, where he reinforced the importance of nursing schools in enhancing the country’s healthcare system. To aid the institution’s efforts, he donated an additional N10 million.

Obi expressed his ongoing commitment to improving Nigeria’s health and education sectors and revealed plans for future visits to Anambra State, where he will support the University of the Niger and Iyienu College of Nursing Sciences.

Speaking on the migration of Nigerian nurses seeking better opportunities abroad, Obi remarked that there is nothing wrong with healthcare professionals pursuing improved lives overseas, as long as the foundation of education and training at home remains strong.

Obi concluded by reiterating his vision of building a better Nigeria through greater investment in education and health, stating, “A new Nigeria is POssible through greater education and enlightenment.”
