Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has expressed deep sorrow over a series of tragic incidents that have recently shaken the nation.

In a statement, he shared his grief about the devastating fire at the iconic spare parts market in Idumota, Lagos State.

Despite his busy schedule, Obi took time to reflect on the impact of the inferno, which reportedly destroyed goods worth hundreds of millions of Naira. “These were people’s means of livelihood going up in flames during already challenging times. It is truly heartbreaking,” he said.

Obi also addressed the tragic loss of lives from two recent boat mishaps. The first occurred on the River Niger, while another devastating accident unfolded in Kogi State. These incidents have claimed many lives, leaving families and communities in mourning.

“While I commend the emergency response teams who acted swiftly to prevent further escalation of the Idumota fire, my heart goes out to the victims and their families,” Obi stated. He extended his condolences to the affected families and the governments of Lagos and Kogi States.

“May God grant eternal rest to the deceased and give their families the fortitude to bear these losses,” he added.

In his message, Obi emphasized the importance of unity and mutual support during challenging times. “By standing together and supporting one another, we will emerge stronger from these adversities,” he concluded.
