Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has expressed his admiration for the efforts of Abia state governor, Alex Otti, and other key stakeholders in the establishment of the Geometric Power facility, also known as the Aba Integrated Power Project.

In a statement released on his official account, Obi hailed the project as a remarkable achievement, attributing its success to the unwavering dedication of the former power minister, Prof Barth Nnaji.

According to reports, the ex-governor firmly believes that the Aba IPP will significantly boost the growth and industrial output of Aba.

Obi’s statement read, “I was present at the inauguration of the Geometric Power facility, the Aba Integrated Power Project, located in the Osisioma Local Government Area of Abia State. This project is a significant milestone that aims to spur development in the commercial city of Aba and its surroundings.

“I have been following this project since its inception about two decades ago when I was the chairman of one of Nigeria’s largest commercial banks. I have tracked its progress and I am thrilled that the grand vision of the Aba IPP has finally been realized.

“I regard the project as a miracle, brought to life by the unwavering commitment of my esteemed elder brother, the former Power Minister, Prof Barth Nnaji, and his team, whose determination and drive for success propelled the project to fruition.

“The Aba IPP is touted as Nigeria’s largest and first independent and integrated power utility. When fully operational, it will address the electricity needs of at least 9 out of 17 local governments in Abia State.

“Power is a crucial driver of development, playing a vital role in the growth of the Small and Medium Scale Enterprise sector, which is the backbone of any nation’s economy. I am convinced that the Aba IPP will significantly enhance the growth and industrial productivity of Aba City and its surroundings. It is a significant step towards our vision of transitioning our nation from a state of consumption to a state of production, especially in Aba, which is emerging as a regional industrial hub.

“Considering the recent bold initiatives taken by Governor Otti to unlock Aba’s immense potential, the Geometric power plant will provide a much-needed boost by supplying reliable power to Aba. With facilities like these, I am confident that our journey towards a New Nigeria is achievable.”
