Peter Obi, the erstwhile governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential nominee, shared his insights from a recent Canadian visit via his social media handle.

His focus was on Brampton, a city that has gained recognition for its accelerated growth not only within Canada but also across North America. This growth is evidenced by its consistent AAA rating from Standard and Poor (S & P) for the past eight years.

Brampton is a vibrant multicultural hub, home to over 250 cultures and nearly 170 languages. A striking 60% of its population is youthful, many of whom are university graduates, indicating a community that is both highly educated and dynamic. The city’s growth is propelled by key productivity pillars such as innovation, creativity, manufacturing, and education.

Brampton’s inclusive attitude towards its diaspora community is noteworthy, demonstrating its dedication to celebrating diversity and harnessing the strengths of its inhabitants. During his 2023 campaign, Obi met with Mayor Patrick Brown, expressing his interest in understanding Brampton’s remarkable growth model. He was encouraged to discover that Nigerians significantly contribute to Brampton’s success, with many serving in various roles within the city administration.

Vincent Rodo, the Director of Organizational Performance, praised the exceptional work ethic and proactive attitude of young Nigerians, underscoring the transformative power of effective leadership in channeling youth aspirations. Like many global cities, Brampton thrives on the vitality and potential of its people for sustainable growth and development. The lessons from Brampton’s productivity and leadership commitment offer invaluable insights for Nigeria.

These insights highlight the need to prioritize investments in human capital development and create an environment that fosters growth and progress. As leaders, we must put the collective well-being of our nation above personal and sectional interests. By intensifying our efforts and adhering to the principles of inclusivity, innovation, and national development commitment, we can steer Nigeria towards realizing its full potential. Together, we can fulfill the promise of a New Nigeria.
