Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Niger State following a devastating petrol tanker explosion in the Dikko area of the state.
The tragic incident, which occurred on Saturday along the Dikko-Maje Road in Suleja Local Government Area, claimed over 70 lives and left more than 50 people injured.
Addressing the incident, Obi shared his sorrow over the heartbreaking loss of life and emphasized the urgent need for stricter safety measures to prevent such disasters.
“The tragic petrol tanker explosion that occurred along Dikko-Maje Road in the Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State is truly heartbreaking. Reports indicate that over 70 lives were lost, while more than 50 people were injured in the incident,” Obi said.
He called attention to the recurring nature of such accidents and urged for immediate action to address the underlying safety issues. “These accidents highlight the urgent need for stricter safety measures to address the dangers of tanker explosions and similar incidents, which often result in colossal disasters,” he added.
Obi extended his sympathies to the families of the victims and wished the injured a swift recovery. “I sincerely commiserate with the families who lost their loved ones in the tragedy. I also extend my condolences to the Government and people of Niger State over this devastating incident. May God grant them, and all of us, the fortitude to bear this loss, eternal rest to the departed, and a swift recovery to the injured,” he said.
