Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has expressed his sadness over the passing of Senator Ayogu Eze.

In a statement released on April 26, 2024, Obi highlighted the remarkable life and career of the late senator.

Senator Eze was a vibrant politician who served in various capacities, including as the Spokesman of the nation’s Senate and the Chairman of the Senate’s Works Committee. Prior to his foray into politics, Eze had established himself as a respected journalist, working for prestigious publications such as The Guardian and Newswatch Magazine, where he rose to the position of Editor.

Obi noted that Eze’s contributions to the development of the country were significant, particularly in his role as a Federal Commissioner for Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). The former presidential candidate praised Eze’s “robust and incisive analysis of issues” and expressed his condolences to the people of Enugu North, Enugu state, where Eze hailed from.

Obi’s tribute underscores the impact that Senator Ayogu Eze had on the political and journalistic landscape of Nigeria. As a vibrant politician and a respected journalist, Eze’s legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire and influence those who follow in his footsteps.
