Former Anambra State Governor, and the presidential candidate of Labour Party, in 2023 election Peter Obi, has expressed his condolences to the families affected by a tragic accident that occurred at the Oye-Agu Abagana Market on Wednesday.

The incident happened when a Toyota Sienna vehicle lost control due to brake failure and crashed into the market, located in the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The accident resulted in the deaths of three people, including a child, and left several others severely injured. Many traders at the market also suffered the destruction of their goods.

Ben Okongwu, President-General of the Abagana Community, confirmed to Vanguard that at least three people lost their lives in the crash, while several others sustained various degrees of injuries.

In a condolence message shared on Thursday, Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, called on the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to intensify efforts in enforcing road safety measures.

“I am disheartened by the sad news reports of a fatal road accident which occurred at a local market in the Abagana Community of Anambra State, where some lives were lost, and others injured,” Obi stated.

He further urged the FRSC to remain vigilant in implementing road safety regulations and to ensure that road users strictly comply with traffic rules.

“I sincerely condole with the families who have lost loved ones and pray for the quick recovery of those injured.
