Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, expressed heartfelt condolences following the passing of Senator Joseph Wayas, Nigeria’s Second Republic Senate President.

Obi, who arrived in Abuja late Monday to attend the funeral Mass, described Wayas as a distinguished and patriotic Nigerian who served the nation during a pivotal period in its legislative history.

“I extended my sincere condolences to the family of the respected elder statesman. He served the nation at a crucial time when Nigeria’s legislative efforts were truly dedicated to the people and focused on our country’s growth,” Obi remarked in his statement.

Obi further highlighted Wayas’ legacy as a staunch defender of democracy, emphasizing that his contributions would continue to inspire future generations.

“May he rest in peace, and may his family find comfort in this time of grief,” he concluded.
