Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has been honored with honorary citizenship by the State of Georgia, United States.

Obi revealed the accolade in a post on his 𝕏 account following his participation in Black Congressional Week events in Washington, DC.

The day began with Obi attending the Congressional Black Caucus Week Reception at the U.S. Senate Kennedy Caucus Room, hosted by Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock. During the event, Senator Warnock encouraged Obi to share his insights on African democracy and development.

Obi also met with Georgia Power, the state’s largest independent power company, engaging in a valuable discussion about energy generation and distribution with CEO Kim Clark. Obi described the conversation as “deeply insightful,” highlighting the company’s role in generating and distributing over 20,000 megawatts of electricity nationwide.

Later, Obi joined the One Voice Africa event, a forum dedicated to advocating for the dignity of Black immigrants. At this gathering, he called on participants to take an active role in promoting good governance across Africa, stressing that the continent’s potential is vast when led by visionary and responsible leaders.

The highlight of Obi’s day was the conferment of honorary citizenship by the State of Georgia. Reflecting on the experience, he said, “The day’s events were about learning, serving, and remaining committed to building a new Nigeria that is truly possible.”
