Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023, has responded positively to the potential merger between himself and Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Obi spoke during an interview on Noire TV-Global Black TV over the weekend.

Obi stated that he is open to the idea of a merger, but only if the goal is to improve governance and unlock Nigeria’s vast potential. He emphasized that he has no interest in mergers or alliances solely for the purpose of securing power or winning elections.

The former Anambra State governor described unity and cooperation among individuals and parties as a welcome development, but only if the objective is to build a better Nigeria. Obi noted that this unity might occur at the party level, individual level, or any other level, but the focus should be on coming together to improve the country.

Obi also commended Atiku for his statements, particularly where he said he would support Obi if the presidential ticket goes to the South-East. The Labour Party candidate stressed that his primary concern is not personal ambition or political maneuvering, but rather the well-being of Nigeria and its people.

In conclusion, Peter Obi’s openness to a merger with Atiku Abubakar is driven by his desire to improve governance and unlock Nigeria’s potential. He emphasizes that any alliance should be based on the shared goal of building a better Nigeria, rather than personal or political interests.
