Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has issued a powerful statement urging President (General) Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately return to Nigeria amid escalating insecurity and widespread violence across the country.

Obi criticized the president’s continued stay in France, describing it as a “retreat” while Nigeria grapples with a surge in killings, kidnappings, and general lawlessness.

“I am compelled at this time in our national life to call on our retreating President to urgently return and confront the growing security crisis head-on,” Obi stated.

He noted that in just the two weeks of the president’s absence, over 150 Nigerians have been killed, particularly in Plateau and Zamfara states. He also referenced fresh insurgency attacks in Borno State, repeated pipeline explosions in the Niger Delta, and increasing violence and abductions in the South-East.

“The CEO of this troubling enterprise called Nigeria is holding a retreat abroad, while blood continues to flow at home,” Obi lamented.

He stressed that the president’s foremost responsibility is the protection of lives and property. “What kind of retreat happens in a peaceful foreign country, while your own country burns?” Obi questioned.

He concluded his statement with a call to action:

“Mr. President, suspend whatever you’re doing in France and come home to take responsibility. This is the leadership a New Nigeria demands.”

“A New Nigeria is POssible.” – PO
