On April 25, 2025, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, visited California State University, Sacramento, where he was warmly welcomed by the institution’s President, Dr. Luke Wood.

During the visit, Obi met with Professor Nicole Fox, author of After Genocide, a poignant exploration of conflict, trauma, and the resilience of reconciliation. Their conversation centered around the struggles of displaced persons, particularly children uprooted by violence and conflict—an issue Obi passionately advocates for.

President Wood also shared details of the university’s transformative initiatives, including the Guidance Scholars program, which supports education for children from foster care backgrounds, and Project Rebound, an initiative dedicated to rehabilitating formerly incarcerated individuals through education and reintegration.

Obi expressed deep admiration for these efforts, emphasizing that such compassionate, inclusive leadership is exactly what Nigeria needs. He reaffirmed his belief that the nation’s progress hinges on how it cares for its most vulnerable citizens.

“A New Nigeria is POssible!” Obi declared, reinforcing his commitment to a future built on empathy, opportunity, and second chances.
