Amnesty International has strongly criticized the Bola Tinubu-led government following recent attacks in Bokkos and Barikin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau, resulting in the tragic death of over 190 residents. Expressing deep concern, the human rights group revealed growing tensions and fear of fresh attacks in Bokkos local government, highlighting the failure of security measures implemented by Nigerian authorities.
In a tweet on Friday, Amnesty International declared, “Whatever security measures put in place by the Nigerian authorities to end the violence in #Plateau state are not working, as Amnesty International receives disturbing reports of increasing tension and fear of fresh attacks across communities in Bokkos LGA.”
Intelligence reports earlier indicated that terrorists were plotting new attacks in Plateau State, merely four days after claiming the lives of 195 individuals in 17 communities. The Middle Belt Forum’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Stanley Kavwam, disclosed this alarming information, revealing that the perpetrators had sent a threatening letter to the Pushit community in the Mangu Local Government Area.
Residents, living in constant fear, shared the distressing details of the letter, where the attackers ominously warned that the community would be running in the streets with Christmas chicken and rice in their hands during the attack. As the news spread, residents reported sleepless nights, pleading for urgent government and security intervention to prevent another tragedy.
Joshua Bukat, a concerned villager, emphasized, “We have been living in fear since the news spread that terrorists are planning a fresh attack in our community. This is not the first time they would send such letters, and on several occasions, they had carried out their threat. Please help us tell the government and security agents to come to our rescue.”
Amnesty International’s condemnation underscores the gravity of the situation, urging immediate action to protect the lives of innocent residents facing the looming threat of terrorism in Plateau State.
