The Nasarawa state police command has banned “protest of any form”, warning to arrest and prosecute anyone caught protesting in the state, Peoples Gazette reports.

“The Nasarawa State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that all forms of protest have been banned throughout the state,” Nasarawa police spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, said in a statement on Sunday. “Therefore, all proposed protests under any guise are hereby prohibited.”

The police said the ban on protest is to forestall the breakdown of law and order in the state, adding that “parents and guardians are advised to ensure their children and wards do not violate this order as anyone caught shall be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.”

Post-election protests led by supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rocked the state last week, days after Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared winner of the March 18 governorship election.

Unclad women have hit the streets in their numbers challenging the emergence of Mr Sule.
