The Nigeria Police have confirmed the arrest and detention of the prominent social media whistleblower known as PIDOM.
This development was announced by Force Public Relations Officer Olumuwiya Adejobi in a statement released on Saturday.
PIDOM, a figure recognized for exposing government and security agency corruption by leaking classified memos, was reported missing on Friday. The police confirmed that Isaac Bristol, the individual behind the PIDOM handle, was apprehended on August 5, 2024, in a hotel in Rivers State.
In response to PIDOM’s disappearance, there was a wave of criticism from Nigerians and human rights activists, including former Minister of Education Obiageli Ezekwesili, who condemned the police’s actions.
Adejobi’s statement elaborated that Bristol, also known as PIDOM, faces allegations related to severe offenses impacting government integrity, including the leakage of classified documents and various cyber-related crimes. He assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted to address these allegations.
“We are committed to conducting a comprehensive investigation into the charges against the suspect,” Adejobi stated. “The Nigeria Police Force will ensure that all legal measures are applied to uphold the law and enhance national security.”
