Mallam Jabir Ibrahim Yaro, the National Chairman of the Northern Comrades Movement of Nigeria (NCMN), has received invitations from the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Security Services (DSS) regarding the upcoming #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest scheduled for August 1 to 10.
In a statement on his X handle, Yaro confirmed, “I was invited by the @PoliceNG and @OfficialDSSNG in respect to the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest. I will surely honour all the invitations and cooperate with the security agencies to ensure a peaceful and well-organised protest.” He emphasized the commitment of his movement to adhere to the law and contribute positively to the nation.
Earlier, Yaro had communicated with security agencies, stating that all relevant parties had been notified about the planned protest. He requested security protection to ensure that the demonstration remains peaceful and well-organized. “Our protest is going to be peaceful, respectful, meaningful, and well-organised. We’re law-abiding citizens, and we’re vehemently against any form of violence,” he asserted. He called for unity in the struggle to #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria.
This planned protest comes amid growing concerns over economic hardship and political dissatisfaction among young Nigerians, who have been mobilizing through social media. The government has reportedly taken measures to suppress the protests, including meetings with traditional and religious leaders and warnings from security agencies against potential violence. The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has indicated that police will protect peaceful protesters while also preparing for possible unrest during the demonstrations
