The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has officially invited the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, for questioning regarding the violent incident that occurred during the recent Eid-el-Fitr procession in Kano State.

The violent clash led to the tragic death of a vigilante member, Surajo Rabiu, and left another, Aminu Suleman, injured.

In an official letter dated April 4, 2025, signed by the Commissioner of Police, Olajide Rufus Ibitoye, on behalf of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Department (FID), Abuja, the emir has been requested to attend an investigative meeting on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

The letter reads, “I have the directives of the Inspector General of Police, through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID), to invite you for an investigative meeting regarding an incident that occurred during the Sallah celebration within your domain. In view of the above, you are hereby invited to the Force Intelligence Department, opposite the Police Force Headquarters, Area 11, Abuja, by 1000hrs on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.”

The letter also extends a cordial invitation, stating, “Your availability is highly sought for a purposeful investigation. Accept the warm regards of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, please.”

As reported by SP Abdullahi Haruna, spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, the incident occurred while local guards were providing security for the entourage of Emir Sanusi II as they returned from the Kofar Mata Eid prayer ground following the two-rakat Eid-el-Fitr prayers.

At the time of this report, the Emir of Kano has not issued any official response to the police invitation, and the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, declined to comment when approached by our correspondent.
