Politicians Rally to Join Coalition to Rescue Nigeria, Says Tanko

The recent visit of Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate Peter Obi to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and other prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders has sparked significant interest. Comrade Yunusa Tanko, spokesman for the Obi/Datti Campaign Organisation, discussed the visit and its implications in an interview with OLAOLU OLADIPO.

Purpose of the Visit

Tanko explained that during Ramadan, Peter Obi conducted humanitarian tours across northern and southwestern Nigeria. These visits aimed to connect with communities and address the poverty and challenges they face. In the North East, Obi’s delegation constructed boreholes and engaged with local leaders to discuss solutions for poverty, education, and healthcare.

Significance of Meeting with Atiku Abubakar

The meeting with Atiku Abubakar, a respected leader from the North East, was part of Obi’s initiative to collaborate with influential figures from various regions. Obi also met with Senator Bukola Saraki from the North Central and Alhaji Sule Lamido from the North West to discuss unified efforts to improve Nigerians’ lives.

Reception and Potential Political Merger

According to Tanko, the reception was fantastic, with a friendly and cordial atmosphere. While some speculate about a potential political merger, Tanko emphasized that politics is dynamic and the goal is to alleviate poverty through collective effort.

Labour Party’s Stance

Tanko clarified that the visits were Obi’s individual initiative and not a Labour Party directive. He believes the party supports the visit, as it aligns with their broader goals of national improvement.

Positive Outcomes and Future Plans

The takeaway from the meetings is a commitment to ongoing collaboration to tackle poverty and improve citizens’ well-being. Regular discussions and a unified approach among stakeholders are planned to ensure continuous progress.

Political Terrain and Interest from Other Parties

Tanko noted that many politicians from various parties have expressed interest in supporting the coalition’s efforts. The positive feedback indicates a growing willingness among political leaders to work together for Nigeria’s betterment.

By uniting leaders from different regions and political backgrounds, this coalition aims to address Nigeria’s pressing issues and foster a collaborative effort to create meaningful change.
