The Presidency has launched a scathing critique of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of adopting tactics reminiscent of former U.S. President Donald Trump in his recent criticisms of federal government policies.

Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, alleged that Atiku, the former presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is resorting to dubious methods to gain political relevance in anticipation of the 2027 elections.

Ajayi’s comments came in response to Atiku’s critique of President Tinubu’s subsidy policy, the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) deal with OVH, a company owned by Wale Tinubu, and other government initiatives.

Ajayi contended that Atiku’s ongoing negative rhetoric is aimed at maintaining a political edge by spreading misinformation. He argued that Atiku is intent on keeping the political climate tense and divisive, rather than focusing on national unity and effective governance.

In his statement, Ajayi remarked, “In our current political climate, figures like Alhaji Atiku seem more interested in playing political games than contributing to meaningful governance. The nation deserves a period of healing and constructive focus post-election, but Atiku persists in promoting falsehoods to perpetuate his agenda.”

He further criticized Atiku for mimicking a “Trumpian playbook,” suggesting that the former vice president is deliberately spreading misinformation with the hope of influencing public opinion.
