The Federal Government has appointed Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, effective May 19, 2025.

In a statement issued by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, the ministry confirmed that the selection adhered strictly to the provisions of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Act, 2003.

As Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Arinze-Umobi will be responsible for managing the university’s daily operations, overseeing both academic and administrative functions, and ensuring the institution continues to run efficiently.

The appointment is temporary and is expected to last no longer than six months or until a substantive Vice-Chancellor is appointed, in accordance with Section 5(14) of the governing Act.

The Ministry expressed full confidence in Prof. Arinze-Umobi’s capacity to provide steady and effective leadership during this interim period. It also emphasized its continued commitment to transparency, institutional autonomy, and merit-driven appointments across Nigeria’s higher education sector.
