The race to reshape Nigeria’s political future has begun as the National Opposition Coalition Group (NOCG), led by key political figures including Rotimi Amaechi and David Mark, has launched a new political party—the All Democratic Alliance (ADA).
The group has applied to INEC for registration ahead of the 2027 general elections. The move comes amid ongoing talks among top opposition leaders, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai, to form a united front to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling APC.
NOCG formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) seeking registration of a newly formed political party ADA.
The coalition, chaired by former Senate President David Mark, announced this development in a statement dated May 19, 2025. The statement was signed by Amaechi and Umar Ardo, who serve as Chairman and Secretary of the New Platform Committee (NPC), the body tasked with establishing the new party.
According to the statement, the coalition met on May 6 in Abuja to finalize the process. Following multiple strategy sessions and subcommittee deliberations, the New Platform Committee, at its June 19 meeting, officially approved the formation of ADA. The committee also ratified the party’s logo, slogan, motto, constitution, and manifesto.
Interim leadership appointments were also made, naming Chief Akin A. Ricketts as the Protem Chairman and Abdullahi Musa Elayo as the Protem National Secretary. The leadership has been mandated to secure office space, open a party bank account post-registration, and begin operating in compliance with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act of 2022.
The announcement comes amid heightened political maneuvering among opposition leaders. Speculation has grown over a potential alliance involving former Vice President and 2023 PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai. These leaders are reportedly in active discussions about forming a united front to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
In a May interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, a spokesperson for Atiku confirmed ongoing coalition talks with Obi and El-Rufai. “Yes, it’s out there in the open,” he said. “Discussions are still ongoing… based on the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians.”
Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the possibility of a successful opposition coalition, asserting that any attempt to unseat President Tinubu in 2027 would ultimately fail.
