A woman was tragically murdered within the 82nd Division (Airborne and Amphibious) of the Nigerian Army on April 12, with a junior military officer, Private Mohammed Adamu (service number 21NA/80/0365), being implicated in the crime.
The victim, a woman wearing a hijab, was reportedly in a relationship with Adamu.
The woman’s lifeless body was found on the premises of the division’s officers quarters by an army lieutenant’s daughter. The murder weapon, a knife, was found near the body, which was wrapped in the victim’s hijab.
Despite the silence from the army authorities, sources have identified the alleged murderer as Private Mohammed Adamu, who is part of the division’s legal service. The victim, known as Hauwa, was reportedly in a romantic relationship with Adamu.
Interestingly, Adamu is said to be a former Boko Haram member who repented and joined the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) before being enlisted into the Nigerian Army in 2021. It’s worth noting that the Nigerian Army had incorporated 400 members of the CJTF into its ranks between 2020 and 2021 to aid in the fight against Boko Haram terrorists.
Sources revealed that both Hauwa and Adamu hailed from the same town in Biu local government area of Borno state. Adamu allegedly paid for Hauwa’s transportation to Enugu, where he subsequently murdered her. He is currently in the custody of the military police, having confessed to the crime.
Hauwa was reportedly pregnant with Adamu’s child at the time of her murder. Adamu allegedly slit her throat, stabbed her multiple times in the belly, and left her body tied up in a bush near the 82nd Division officers quarters in the early hours of April 12. In his statement, Adamu claimed that he was not the father of Hauwa’s unborn child and was not ready to be a father.
Despite the Nigerian Army’s denial of recruiting ex-Boko Haram members, insiders claim that many repentant Boko Haram members join the CJTF before being enlisted into the military.
Another source confirmed Adamu’s arrest and his confession to killing Hauwa and her unborn child. Adamu, who serves as a bathman to Major HY Shehu, the persecuting counsel and also DDLS of the 82nd Division, allegedly killed Hauwa over suspected infidelity. Hauwa’s body has been deposited at the 82nd Division military hospital.
The discovery of Hauwa’s body was made by the daughter of Lieutenant A Jackson while she was on her way to meet her father at their farm.
