On Saturday, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, revealed that he endured sleepless nights to ensure Sim Fubara became the Governor of Rivers State.
Wike made this statement during a reception organized in his honor by the Rivers State Ijaw Peoples Congress in Port Harcourt. Despite his efforts, tensions have escalated between Wike and Fubara since the latter assumed office.
The ongoing rift between the two political figures persists, despite efforts by President Bola Tinubu to mediate.
During his speech, Wike said, “Who has Fubara made? What you see today is envy from those who couldn’t achieve what we are doing. These are people we’ve defeated politically, time and again. If the chance comes again, we’ll defeat them once more.”
Wike emphasized his role in Fubara’s rise to power, highlighting the support he gave to an Ijaw man becoming governor. “God used us. We had sleepless nights. So, who truly loves the Ijaw people? Is it those who can’t even help their own Ijaw brother become governor, or us?”
He further questioned the political strength of his critics, stating, “If they were so powerful, would the Ijaw people ever have gotten the governorship in the old Rivers State? Where are they now?”
