The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo, has officially confirmed Barrister Lawrence Oko-Jaja, SAN, as the Chairman of the Board of the Rivers State Bureau on Public Procurement (RSBoPP).

This confirmation took place during a plenary session held at the Hallowed Chamber of the Assembly within the Administrative Block of the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday, August 30, 2024.

In addition to Oko-Jaja, the Assembly also screened and confirmed seven other nominees as members of the RSBoPP board. These nominees include Dr. Ernest Ibekwe Ekwe, Dr. Mina Ogbanga, Iseleye Amachree, Adokiye Oyagiri, Gift Alex-Hart, Mrs. Grace Osaronu, and Selinah Amoniea.

The screening and confirmation process followed a letter sent by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to the Assembly. The letter, read by Speaker Oko-Jumbo during the plenary, requested the screening and confirmation of the nominees pursuant to the provisions of Section 1, Sub-Section 4 of the Rivers State Public Procurement Law No. 4 of 2008.

During the screening, the nominees pledged to leverage their extensive experience to advance the state’s interests in terms of government policy implementation. Oko-Jaja specifically assured that the board, under his leadership, would ensure value for money in all goods and services contracted by the state government.

Speaker Oko-Jumbo advised the nominees to uphold their trust and loyalty to the state government, emphasizing the need to harmonize best practices with quality performance while enforcing probity and accountability in all procurements handled by the Bureau.

The lawmakers confirmed the nominees through voice votes, describing them as fitting for their appointments. The House adjourned the sitting until September 4, 2024.
