The Rivers State House of Assembly officially resumed legislative activities at 10 a.m. on Thursday, marking a significant return to democratic governance following a six-month suspension.
Under the leadership of Speaker Hon. Martin Amaewhule, the assembly convened at the Assembly Residential Complex along the Aba-Port Harcourt expressway. This location now serves as the temporary legislative chamber after political unrest led to the declaration of a State of Emergency by President Bola Tinubu.
Sources confirm that all 27 lawmakers had returned to the state days ahead of the emergency rule’s expiration. Having taken residence within the complex, the legislators were fully prepared to commence their first sitting since the suspension of democratic processes.
This resumption signals a pivotal moment in Rivers State’s political recovery and the reactivation of its legislative agenda.
