Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State personally intervened to curb the menace of commercial motorcycle riders, colloquially known as Okada, flouting traffic regulations on the busy Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

A compelling video shared on social media by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Wale Ajetunmobi, showcased the moment Sanwo-Olu halted his convoy to pursue Okada riders violating traffic rules. The riders, upon realizing the governor’s presence, hastily dispersed, leaving behind their motorcycles and passengers to avoid arrest. Despite the attempt to escape, Sanwo-Olu’s team successfully apprehended five of the offenders.

In a video clip, Sanwo-Olu addressed a passenger, highlighting the risks associated with engaging in such unlawful behavior. He specifically called out a graduate for allowing the riders to take her on a one-way route, emphasizing the potential consequences and expressing his disappointment.

Moreover, the surprise element unfolded as one of the apprehended offenders was revealed to be a lance corporal in the Nigerian Army.

Sanwo-Olu expressed his displeasure at the soldier’s attempt to use his military status as an excuse, stating, “That’s the more reason why you should be arrested.”

This bold move by Sanwo-Olu underscores his commitment to enforcing traffic regulations and ensuring the safety of citizens, sending a strong message that no one, regardless of their profession, is above the law when it comes to violating traffic rules.
