Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Nigeria’s Labour Party, was among world leaders invited to attend the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States.
The ceremony took place inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda in Washington, where Chief Justice John Roberts administered the presidential oath to Trump, and Justice Brett Kavanaugh officiated the swearing-in of Vice President J.D. Vance.
However, Obi was represented by the Chairman of the Labour Party Caretaker Committee, Senator Nenadi Usman, PhD. In her statement, she confirmed the invitation and wrote, “As I prepare to represent our party and our nation’s interests at the inauguration of Donald Trump, I am reminded of the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in shaping a better future. Ready to engage, listen, and advocate for our people.”
On inauguration day, Usman remarked, “It was truly remarkable to stand here and listen to the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump, deliver his speech at the Sunday 19th January 2025 victory rally. The ceremony was held indoors at the Capitol One Arena due to the cold weather.”
President Trump’s address emphasized themes of national unity, security, and economic revitalization, resonating with many across the globe. His call for collaboration and progress serves as an inspiration for nations striving toward development, cohesion, and a brighter future.
Witnessing this momentous occasion reinforces the importance of strong leadership and the enduring impact of democratic processes worldwide. It is a testament to the resilient spirit of democracy and the peaceful transition of power.
Reflecting on these values, Usman prayed for the Labour Party in Nigeria, hoping it may serve as a beacon of hope, unity, and progressive leadership for the nation. She concluded, “May God Almighty guide our leaders to put Nigeria first and the citizens to work together for a prosperous, equitable, and united Nigeria.”
