Departing from Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is en route to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to extend the full support of the Nigerian presidency to the Super Eagles as they gear up to face South Africa in the semi-final of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The highly anticipated match is scheduled to take place at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake, Côte d’Ivoire, later this Wednesday.

In a statement released by the President’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, it was emphasized that the Vice President’s presence aims to reinforce the profound connection between football and national identity in Nigeria. His attendance is expected to not only uplift the spirits of the Super Eagles on the field but also unite millions of Nigerians who will be cheering passionately from their homes.

Throughout this year’s AFCON, the Super Eagles have demonstrated remarkable prowess, showcasing dominant performances during the group stages and clinching a thrilling victory in the quarter-final. Their stellar performance positions them as formidable contenders for the coveted continental soccer title.

With their 15th appearance in the semi-finals, Nigeria boasts the record for the most appearances at this stage of the tournament. The team’s aspirations are set on replicating their triumph of 2013 when they clinched the trophy in South Africa.

Vice President Shettima’s journey to Côte d’Ivoire serves as a powerful call for national unity and solidarity. As the Super Eagles gear up for their crucial semi-final clash, Nigerians worldwide are urged to raise their voices and rally behind the national team in their quest for victory.
