In a noteworthy development following the commencement of the 6.8km Aba-Porthacourt Expressway project on October 13, 2023, by Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, the construction work has maintained a commendable pace as per the initial promises.

Julius Berger, the appointed construction company, is tasked with not only reconstructing the expressway but also implementing a flood control mechanism in the flood-prone regions of Uratta, Ohabiam, and Ndiegoro within an ambitious 18-month timeframe.

A recent visit by THE WHISTLER on Tuesday revealed active excavation of soil, ongoing road filling, and the alignment of drainage systems.

Tobias Meletschus, the Director of Corporate Development at Julius Berger, emphasized the company’s commitment to completing the initial phase of the expressway promptly and installing an effective flood control system. He stated that the goal is to address the persistent flood issues in the targeted areas comprehensively.

The Aba-Porthacourt Expressway holds significant importance for Dr. Alex Otti, who made it a focal point of his pre-election campaigns.

He pledged to permanently address the longstanding issues associated with the neglected road and revive economic activities in the region. With the ongoing progress and dedication from all stakeholders, the project seems to be on track to fulfill these promises.
