In an early morning re-run election on Saturday, voters in Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency flocked to the polls to cast their ballots in 26 polling units where votes were canceled by the Court of Appeal.

Bodinga West State Constituency also experienced a substantial voter turnout, particularly among women, in all monitored polling units, as reported by our correspondent.

At Yabo Kan Wuri polling unit 001, voters queued as early as 8 am, awaiting accreditation to exercise their right to vote. Many individuals interviewed by journalists expressed satisfaction with the electoral process, noting that it was less strenuous compared to the previous general elections.

Malam Garba, a voter, voiced hope that this time their votes would count and a rightful winner would emerge.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) initially declared Hon Umar Yusuf Yabo of the PDP as the winner in the 2023 National Assembly election for the constituency. However, his victory faced challenges as Hon. Abubkar Umaru Dan Bukari of the APC contested the result at the Tribunal and the Appeal Court.

The re-run election commenced smoothly with a significant voter turnout at designated polling units. INEC, having nullified 26 polling units following the Court of Appeal’s decision, expressed readiness for a peaceful re-run in 46 polling units within the state.

Our correspondent, monitoring the re-run election, reported that INEC officials efficiently organized election materials from 8 a.m. onwards, with voter screening and ballot casting occurring simultaneously. Adequate security measures were in place at all polling units to ensure orderly proceedings, with voters lining up as early as 7 a.m.

The re-run election is highly contested between the two major political parties, the APC and PDP. Each candidate from these parties holds optimistic expectations of winning with a significant margin in the re-run election.
