The Sokoto State Government has confirmed that a joint airstrike was carried out by the Nigerian Military in collaboration with the United States Government in Tangaza Local Government Area of the state, with no civilian casualties recorded.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director-General of Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, and made available to journalists on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the full impact of the airstrike could not be immediately determined, as authorities are awaiting a comprehensive assessment from the Joint Operations team.

The statement also addressed reports concerning objects discovered near Jabo town in Tambuwal Local Government Area, noting that their nature and circumstances could not yet be explained. It said clarification is being awaited from Nigerian and US military authorities, while stressing that no civilian casualties were recorded in Jabo as well.

The Sokoto State Government reiterated its support for collaborations between Nigeria and relevant global partners aimed at tackling terrorism and cross-border crimes within the state.

It added that the ongoing security operations are focused on safeguarding lives and property, and ensuring lasting peace across Sokoto State.

The statement further noted that over the past two years, the state government has consistently supported security agencies by providing critical equipment to strengthen efforts against banditry and terrorism.

The government therefore urged residents of affected communities to continue cooperating with both federal and state authorities by providing useful information to security agencies, while also calling for prayers for the success of security operations in the state and the country at large.
