In a resounding affirmation of the paramount role peace plays in the development of the South-Eastern region, governors from the states recently gathered for a historic event.
The unveiling of the Peace In South-East Project (PISE-P) in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State on December 29, 2023, underscored the region’s commitment to addressing security challenges through innovative, non-kinetic approaches.
Initiated by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, the PISE-P project has garnered praise for its aim to restore stability in the region.
Represented by Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Imo State Governor and Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum, the leaders expressed their unwavering dedication to promoting peace across the region. Governor Uzodimma praised Deputy Speaker Kalu for the initiative, recognizing the urgency of restoring peace amidst the prevailing insecurity.
“The governors of the South-East region, in collaboration with Ohaneze, convened a security summit in Owerri, resolving to take every necessary step to bring peace to the South-East and curb insecurity,” Governor Uzodimma emphasized.
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, delivering the Bende Peace Declaration, reinforced the region’s commitment to peace as a catalyst for economic growth and progress. The declaration symbolizes a collective aspiration for peace, prosperity, and confidence in building a brighter future for the South-East.
The ceremony, graced by Vice President Kashim Shettima representing President Bola Tinubu, signifies a crucial step towards addressing insecurity and promoting stability in the South-East. The Peace In South-East Project emerges as a beacon of hope, heralding a new era of security, growth, and prosperity for the region.
