Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma on Thursday insisted that he has a cordial relationship with the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Maintaining his stand while speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Thursday, the Imo state governor said he was surprised to hear that there is a dispute between the state chapter of the NLC and his government.

“I’m surprised to hear that there is a showdown between the government of Imo state and the Nigeria Labour Congress. I do not think it is correct because there is no conflict, the relationship of that of my government and the Nigeria Labour Congress in Imo state is very cordial, all i have heard is that the national leadership, the president of the Nigeria Labour congress continue to issue threats; how he will shut Imo state down, how he will occupy Imo, how he would make life unbearable for Imo citizens, I’ve not been given the opportunity to understand the reason behind all this threats,” Mr Uzodinma said.

The governor also accused Ajaero of being a member of the opposition Labour Party.

His comment comes as the NLC and Trade Union Congress shutdown economic activities in the state over treatment meted on the union’s president.

The NLC president Joe Ajaero was last week brutalized by men alleged to be loyal to Uzodinma.

The labour union alleged that loyalist of Governor Uzodinma, in connivance with the Imo State Police command, brutalized the union’s president.

However, the Imo Police command debunked the rumor suggesting that it took the union leader into preventive custody after receiving intel of planned mob action against the union’s leader.
