This ruling echoes the appellate court’s stance on January 17, 2025, which deemed such issues non-justiciable, leaving resolution to the party’s own processes.
No Endorsement of Julius Abure
Contrary to some interpretations, the Supreme Court did not declare Barrister Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party. The judgment instead highlighted the need for internal mechanisms, guided by the party’s constitution, to settle leadership questions.
Caretaker Committee’s Mandate
To address the leadership gap and maintain stability, the Labour Party established a National Caretaker Committee on September 4, 2024. Chaired by Senator Nenadi Usman and with Senator Darlington Nwokocha serving as Secretary, the committee has been managing the party’s operations effectively.
A Plea for Unity
