The Supreme Court confirmed Alex Otti of the Labour Party (LP) as the legitimate Governor of Abia State.
The ruling, delivered on Friday, concludes a legal battle initiated by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All-Progressives Congress (APC) challenging Otti’s election.
The apex court, headed by Justice John Okoro, had reserved judgment on Wednesday after hearing arguments from all parties involved.
Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, reading the lead judgment, dismissed the appeals brought by Okechukwu Ahiwe and the People’s Democratic Party, stating that they failed to substantiate their claim that Otti was unqualified for the election and that the electoral process was significantly flawed.
The court affirmed the decisions of both the election tribunal and the Court of Appeal.
Additionally, the Supreme Court rejected another appeal filed by the All-Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Ikechi Emenike, against Alex Otti’s victory, solidifying Otti’s position as the rightful Governor of Abia State.
