In the early hours of Saturday, August 23, 2025, the Ezinachi community in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State was shaken by a devastating act of violence. Five innocent lives were brutally taken Mr. Emeka Ezeagwula and his wife, Mrs. Blessing C. Ezeagwula, Mr. Ejike Otuonye, Mr. Chidi Chineke, and a member of the local vigilante group.

These were not just names on a casualty list. They were fathers, mothers, sons, daughters pillars of their families and defenders of their community. Their tragic deaths are a grim reminder of the growing insecurity and the urgent need for decisive action.

Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, CON, KSC, has expressed profound grief over this senseless massacre. “I stand in deep mourning with the families of the victims, the people of Ezinachi, and the entire Okigwe zone,” he said. “Their pain is our shared pain. This atrocity is not just a local tragedy; it is an assault on our collective humanity.”

He strongly condemned the attack and urged security agencies to fulfill their constitutional duty by swiftly apprehending those responsible and putting in place preventive measures to forestall such tragedies in the future.

“Our people deserve to live without fear, to farm their lands in peace, and to sleep without the sound of gunfire haunting their dreams. We must not allow this level of violence to become the norm,” Ihedioha stated.

He concluded with prayers for the victims and their families: “May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may God grant comfort and strength to the grieving families.”
