United States Congressman Riley Moore has reacted to the recent airstrikes carried out against terrorist targets in Sokoto State, describing the operation as an initial step toward addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

The reaction followed an announcement by former US President Donald Trump on Thursday that American forces had conducted multiple airstrikes against Islamic State (ISIS) militants operating in north-west Nigeria.

Commenting on the development, Moore cautioned that additional actions could follow if the violence persists. In a statement shared on his 𝕏 account, the congressman said Trump is determined to bring an end to the killing of Christians in Nigeria.

According to Moore, the airstrike represents the beginning of a broader effort to confront what he described as the ongoing targeting of Christians, as well as the wider insecurity affecting Nigerians across religious and ethnic communities.

“President Trump has been clear that the killing of Christians in Nigeria must end,” Moore stated, adding that the administration’s commitment to the issue should not be underestimated.

He emphasized that the operation, which he said was carried out in coordination with the Nigerian government, signals a tougher stance by the United States against terrorism and violent extremism in the region.

Moore concluded by warning that if the security situation does not improve, further measures may be taken in support of Nigeria’s fight against militant groups.
